Rainbow Iris Agate is a RARE Variety of agate. face-up, it looks like any other ordinary agate. Under Transmitted light, you will see rainbow. There is a Rainbow shown when light strikes from the back at certain angles in this piece. It is very hard to show on photos. "Iris Agate" is a name used for a finely-banded agate that produces a display of color when it is cut properly and illuminated from a direction that sends light through its very thin bands. The name "Iris Agate" is used because one meaning of the word "iris" is "a rainbow-like display of colors." Note the rainbow will display in light surrounded by darkness, it will not show in sunlight. Note this is a large piece and the rainbow is more than one camera angle can show. 3 5/8 inch by 1/8 inch thick at about 48 grams
