Rainbow Iris Agate is a RARE Variety of agate. face-up, it looks like any other ordinary agate. Under Transmitted light, you will see splendid rainbow fire. There is Stunning Rainbow fire shown when light strikes from the back at certain angles in this piece! It is very hard to show on photos. "Iris Agate" is a name used for a finely-banded agate that produces a spectacular display of color when it is cut properly and illuminated from a direction that sends light through its very thin bands. The name "Iris Agate" is used because one meaning of the word "iris" is "a rainbow-like display of colors." Note the rainbow will display in light surrounded by darkness, it will not show in sunlight that much. Note this is a large piece and the rainbow is more than one camera angle can show. 3.75 inch by 1/8 inch thick at about 57 grams
