Original, vintage, Signed Etching by Rosamond Niles (1881 - 1960). The etching is very well done. Mrs Niles had a skilled hand, see photos. Measure is 9.75 x 7 inches. Overall: 10.5 x 15 inches. Condition is perfect but for the edges of the paper which is rough edge, not cut. Edges are well out of the image area, no issue.
ABOUT THE ARTIST: A portraitist and etcher, Rosamond Niles was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. She studied at the Art Students League in New York City and was a student of Joseph Pennell, George Bridgman and Frank DuMond. She also studied in Paris with Andre L'Hote and Edouard Leon. By 1929, she was living in New York City, but by the mid 1930s was in Old Lyme, Connecticut, and in 1940 was in Woodberry Forest, Virginia. Records indicate that throughout the 1930s she was also active in Texas exhibitions including the Southern States Art League, 1930 to 1940; Houston Museum of Fine Arts with a one-woman show in 1931; and Pabst Galleries, San Antonio in 1934. Rosamond Niles was a member of the National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors, National Arts Club, and Southern States Art League.
