Most Amethyst Cast after hexagonal-rhombohedral Calcite crystals have thin walls, this one is thick and sturdy. Offering a Amethyst cast after Calcite from Artigas, Uruguay. Initially a large, hexagonal-rhombohedral Calcite prism with a rhombohedral termination formed and was covered by glassy purple Amethyst crystals. At a later stage, subsequent to the deposition of the Amethyst, fluids came through the cavity and dissolved the the entire Calcite crystal leaving this cast. We know the initial history of the piece from the very sharply defined mold of the of the original Calcite crystal that left the signs of its morphology. The crystal is in superb condition with minimal damage, only 2 crystals have chips. The area of iron staining is natural with no damage. 3.5 inches tall by 3 inches wide at it's base. 10.4 ounces makes it good size.
